On March 16, 2023 the UNB Fredericton’s faculty of arts invites the media to the W. Stewart MacNutt Memorial Lecture.

Dr. Daniel Samson, an associate professor at Brock University, will deliver “Fashioning a Modern Man: James Barry of Six Mile Brook.” A historian of 18th and 19th century Nova Scotia, Dr. Samson is currently writing a biography of James Barry based on his meticulous 56-year-long diary. Barry’s diary recounts daily life in Six Mile Brook, his own domestic life, as well as his radical evangelical politics and free-thought spiritualism. Join Dr. Samson for a conversation about a thoroughly modern man born in 19th century Nova Scotia.
